BYTON Partners With Electrify America For Free Charging In U.S.

The arrangement provides customers free unlimited charging for two years.

Fresh off of the news that Byton just received both their US Distributor license (for BYTON Americas, LLC) and Retail license (for BYTON Cars California, LLC), Byton has some more good to announce news here at the LA Auto Show.

Byton and Electrify America have agreed to a partnership that will give Byton customers in the US complimentary unlimited 30-minute DC Fast charge charging sessions, as well as unlimited 60-minute Level 2 charging sessions on the company’s nationwide network.

“In talking with our future customers, it’s clear that easy access to public charging infrastructure paves the way for a seamless EV ownership experience,” says Managing Director, BYTON Americas, Jose Guerrero. “Unlimited charging privileges on Electrify America’s charging network for two years, exemplifies BYTON’s commitment to customer-centricity.”

Byton will begin series production of its first vehicle, the M-Byte electric SUV, in the first half of 2020. Production will be solely for the Chinese market for the first year, with US deliveries scheduled to begin in 2021. The target price for the base M-Byte is $45,000. That version will have a usable battery capacity of 71 kWh and has a range of 224 miles on the WLTP range scale. There will also be an optional battery with a usable capacity of 95 kWh, and that version has a WLTP range rating of 270 miles per charge.

“We are delighted that BYTON has chosen our broad and ultra-fast DC charging network as a natural fit for their forward thinking M-Byte EV,” said Giovanni Palazzo, president and chief executive officer, Electrify America. “As America’s largest, open DC fast charging network, we are convinced that this complimentary charging offer will help their drivers feel confident in driving an M-Byte nearly anywhere in the U.S.”

The 95 kWh M-Byte will accept a charge rate of 150 kW, and the 72 kWh version can charge at rates up to 120 kW. By charging at these rates, both versions of the M-Byte can attain an 80% state of charge with a 30-minute charging session on Electrify America’s 150 kW DC Fast charge stations.

Electrify America will have a projected 3,500 150+ kW DC Fast charge stations installed and operational in over 800 locations in the US by the time the M-Byte enters the US market in 2021.
