First Look at GTA Online: The Contract, Which Includes Dr. Dre
Grand Theft Auto Online (GTA Online) is one of the biggest video games in the world, but already knew that. Who would’ve thought that stealing cars, organizing crimes, and general digital mayhem would become so popular? To keep things fresh, GTA‘s developer, Rockstar Games, has produced all-new expansions that flesh out the online open world with even more content. One example of that is the Los Santos Tuners expansion which we told you all about back in August. Starting today, players can get a brand new GTA Online expansion called “The Contract,” which features rap legend and mogul Dr. Dre!
The narrative expansion is free for download with every copy of Grand Theft Auto V, and revisits the game’s Franklin character. After the events of GTA V, Franklin moved up from bank robberies to running his own company, “F. Clinton and Partner,” a celebrity solutions agency. Essentially, Franklin helps famous people deal with stuff that they can’t deal with themselves, probably because they’re too busy doing celebrity things.
Franklin finds himself in need of an A-list client to keep things afloat and that’s when his former partner Lamar Davis comes through with a series of connections that ultimately leads to the one and only D.R.E. As it turns out, Dre lost his phone which just so happens to contain a treasure trove of unreleased music. Your job is to go on a quest to help retrieve the phone and secure Dre’s latest tracks. Anderson Paak joins Dre with both lending their voices and likenesses to the expansion.
Music has always been a major component to GTA‘s popularity and Rockstar Games has gone all-in to make it even better for this update, including incorporating a music studio where you can visit Dr. Dre and see how he creates tracks, hang with a group of friends, or spend some time with Franklin and Lamar in the writer’s room. Along with the new, exclusive music from Dr. Dre, Big Boy’s Radio Los Santos station gets an overhaul with exclusive new music from various artists, a new station called MOTOMAMI is introduced, and there’s a “Dre Day” takeover from DJ Pooh’s West Coast Classics that features Dr. Dre in addition to surprise cameos.
You’re probably expecting some new cars from The Contract and the creators don’t disappoint, bringing in seven new vehicles, some of which we feel are the cleanest options to date. The Bravado Buffalo, for example, carries some heavy Dodge Charger vibes and a mean stare down.
Above, the same car has been modified with a front-mount intercooler and extended front splitter. The game’s Vehicle Workshop grants upgrade options for players to make changes along the way, just as new weaponry is available to players to choose from.
Note the carbon fiber hood and grille trim on this rather Bentley-like Enus Deity sedan.
Maybe you’ll need a luxury sports car such as the Lampadati Cinqemila, a svelte sedan with whiffs of Maserati personality. This one is fitted with a front splitter and tow hook.
Who knows, maybe the need for brute like this Enus Jubilee is in order to move through Los Santos to get the job done. Amusingly, this Enus is styled like Rolls-Royce’s Cullinan—whereas the Deity sedan mentioned previously carries Bentley cues.
If all out speed is in order, then the fire-breathing Dewbauchee Champion could be your go-to car. Its low-slung front fascia is just inches off the pavement, shown here with carbon fiber canards and a pronounced rear wing.
This Pegassi Ignus has all the sharp, defined lines of a Lambo with large wheels wrapped in low-profile rubber; sleek, fluted side mirrors; and the sort of power you might need to complete one of Franklin’s many missions.
With the new cars, music, and surroundings, there are also weekly event bonuses and various discounts available, and, if you jump in play GTA online this week, they’ll set you up with a free Radio Los Santos tee at no charge. By the time you finish reading this, The Contract expansion will be live on GTA Online and free to join. So, after you play through it, tag us on IG @SuperStreet and let us know what you think.
