Ford Prepping Even More Hardcore GT For Goodwood Reveal

As one Ford GT says goodbye — the racer that just wrapped up its program at Le Mans — another Ford GT looks set to say hello. And it’ll do so close to where the first GT40 was built, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in Britain.

Ford didn’t say much when it released this shadowy teaser. All we know is that Hermann Salenbauch from Ford Performance will join Multimatic’s Larry Holt for a special announcement at the Festival on July 4. Multimatic is the Canadian company that hand builds the GT for Ford.

From the looks of the image, it seems to be an evolution of the road car with a towering wing and roof scoop plucked straight off the LM. It’s certainly more hardcore than the Carbon Series. Track-only special edition are all the rage these days, and a few run-out models with a swollen price tag to match wouldn’t be that out of place.

It’s also possible that, with the No. 66 car attending the Festival too, the announcement is of a whole new race car for a different series altogether. Maybe (hopefully) the new Hypercar class to challenge the Aston Martin Valkyrie?

Then again, those look like very much like the regular side mirrors…

Whatever the news will be, it will be just a small part of a full-size Ford fleet. The new Mustang Shelby GT500 will be making its UK debut, the only car in the Blue Oval’s lineup that makes the regular GT’s 641hp output seem small. The fourth-gen Focus ST will make an appearance too, as well as rally, NASCAR, and drift machines. Oh, and a sweet Zakspeed Capri.

We’ll learn more next week, on America’s birthday. Seems appropriate, right?
