Infiniti teases QX55 SUV coupe at Pebble Beach
Infiniti will soon be adding an SUV coupe to its line-up, and it will be called the QX55. Nissan’s luxury marque cites its first-generation FX crossover as inspiration for the brushstroke silhouette teaser (pictured) of its future model, which is set for market release around the middle of next year.
The QX designation which followed the earlier FX plate denotes the brand’s range of SUVs, while the ’55’ suffix indicates that this forthcoming model could well be a size smaller than its QX70 sibling; this should be closer in size to the Q50 sedan, whilst drawing cues from the Q60 Coupe for its sleek roof.
This is in line with the German establishment that the QX55 is likely to be priced against. Just as the QX50 is positioned in the ballpark of the Mercedes-Benz GLC and the BMW X3, the QX55 should be lined up with the likes of the GLC Coupe and the BMW X4.
Infiniti has not released details for the QX55 just yet, though it can be expected to employ the QX50’s running gear comprising a 2.0 litre VC-Turbo petrol engine with 272 PS and 390 Nm of torque, paired to a continuously variable transmission and either front- or all-wheel-drive.
Also likely to be adapted from the QX50 for the coupe-roofed QX55 are Direst Adaptive Steering (DAS) and the ProPILOT Assist suite of driver assistance systems, while other in-car equipment should also feature the latest iteration of Infiniti’s InTouch infotainment setup, offered in the QX50 via two touchscreen displays. So far, so sleek. Do you like the pairing of this roofline with Infiniti’s latest design language?
