King Charles’s car collection – Aston Martin, Jaguar & more

Prince Charles drives his vintage Aston Martin in 2020

This weekend marks the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla, with people from around the world watching the celebrations over the bank holiday weekend. The royals have long been known for their love of vehicles, with the new King being no exception. Throughout the Coronation process, the Diamond Jubilee State Coach and the Gold State Coach will be used to transport the royals around London.

King Charles III has set himself apart from other royals, with environmentally friendly choices becoming the norm, yet still keeping a royal flair for his personal fleet.

Chris Jevons, Sales and Marketing Manager at JTAPE, highlighted the impressive vehicles in the King’s collection and how he differs from the rest of the Royal Family.

He said: “With a garage stocked up with £6.3million worth of vintage Rolls-Royces, Bentleys, Jaguars and, of course, Aston Martins, the news that King Charles III is a big fan of cars probably won’t shock you.

“What might surprise you, however, is that the King isn’t your average petrolhead. In fact, he’s very much the opposite.”

Aston Martin

The King is known to be a fan of Aston Martins, having been gifted a classic 1970 Aston Martin DB6 on his 21st birthday more than 50 years ago.

While the car was always fit for a King, it went through a massive transformation to suit the King’s environmental aims.

Mr Jevons added: “Sure, he loves his Aston Martins, but his majesty is also a long-time advocate of protecting the planet.

“So much so, in fact, that he had his favourite car – the DB6 MK II Vantage Volante – converted to run on a bioethanol mix made from wine and cheese back in 2008.”

The biofuel is blended with 15 percent unleaded petrol to make the car more powerful, with Aston Martin Specialists RS Williams saying the car performs better than ever.

The DB6 was used by the Prince and Princess of Wales as they drove from Buckingham Palace to Clarence House after their wedding in 2011.

King Charles III has owned a number of other Aston Martins including a V8 Vantage Volante, which was a gift from the Emir of Bahrain, and a V8 Virage Volante.

It is believed King Charles was one of the first people to buy Jaguar’s first all-electric car – the I-Pace – in 2018.

Chris Jevons continued, saying: “He was also the first member of the royal family to buy an electric car: a Jaguar I-Pace in a one-of-a-kind colour unavailable to other Jaguar customers.

“As more eco-friendly driving gains in popularity, we reckon it’s great to see someone of the King’s stature leading the way.”

The Bentley Royal Limousine is arguably one of the most impressive vehicles in the Royal fleet, having been built to honour the late Queen’s 50th Golden Jubilee.

The slick Jaguar is designed to withstand anything, with reinforced bodywork and glass, blast-resistant cabin and Kevlar-enforced tyres.

The vehicle, which is believed to be valued at around £10million, is now used by members of the Royal Family for official events, including the King’s recent trip to Germany and France.

Land Rover

The Royal Family has long been supporters of the British brand, with almost all being spotted in a Land or Range Rover over the last 50 years.

Although the King kept the Aston Martin DB6 as his personal favourite, the brand was known to be favoured by his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

A Land Rover Discovery once owned by the King was recently sold at auction, with the 4×4 going under the hammer for £12,050.
