Looking Closer at the 2021 Genesis G80 Sedan and GV80 SUV

Hyundai’s recent premium brand start-up, Genesis, revealed its first SUV earlier this year, the GV80. And, soon after, revealed a new G80 sedan. While we’re still a few weeks away from learning how they are to drive, I got a chance to take a closer look at each of them and wanted to share what I found.

Here are several photos of the Genesis G80 sedan, followed by several more of the GV80 SUV. You’ll see a lot of similarities between the two, logical enough as they share platforms and powertrains, but a few key differences as well. Genesis calls these vehicles a “democratization of technology.” Look yourself and see if you agree.

It’s clear that both the 2021 Genesis G80 and GV80 have a lot in common, in both styling and substance.

The 2021 Genesis G80 takes cues from its GV80 SUV brother and has the same grille and quad narrrow headlights in front.

The 2021 Genesis G80 has a $48,725 starting price.

In profile, you can see that the 2021 Genesis G80 takes the sloping rear-end design that’s fashionable these days.

At the rear, the 2021 Genesis G80 gets taillight treatment similar to the headlights as well as lip spoiler atop the trunk.

The Genesis logo sits just above the grille on the 2021 Genesis G80.

Here’s a closer look at the narrow quad headlights on the 2021 Genesis G80.

The silver accents bakes into the front fender are a little old school on the 2021 Genesis G80, the large fixed, four-piston brake calipers are not.

The wheels are five-spoke painted aluminum on the 2021 Genesis G80, with all-season Pirelli PZero tires, 245/40R20 on all four corners.

This is NOT the exhaust tip on the driver’s side of the 2021 Genesis G80. It’s a fake, silver cladding piece.

That’s the real exhaust tip tucked inside of the 2021 Genesis G80. I don’t like it. I want real tips, not glossy makeovers.

The trunk release for the 2021 Genesis G80 is hidden in plain site, a nice feature.

As you enter the 2021 Genesis G80, your seat controls are seen on the left side of the seat bottom. The circular dial near the seat back adjusts lumbar. The top button towards the front turns on the seat massage.

Those seats provide good space for rear seats passengers in the 2021 Genesis G80.

In front of the 2021 Genesis G80, both the instrument cluster and the center console use ultra wide screens. The PRNDL is a silver rimmed dial with a glass top with a silver P button in the center to put the car in park.

G80 rear-seat passengers have access to HVAC controls as well. There are also seat heat and ventilation adjustments on the center arm rest.

And for the those wishing for a more chauffeured experience in the 2021 Genesis G80, the rear passenger seat can adjust the seat back and seat bottom of the passenger front.

Moving on to the 2021 Genesis GV80, which has a $49,925 starting price.

From the front, it’s clear that the 2021 Genesis GV80 is a bit taller than the G80, but otherwise very similar.

I think the inverted pentagon grill looks better on the 2021 Genesis GV80 than the G80.

And, yes, the 2021 Genesis GV80 gets similar styling treatment to the G80 in the rear as well.

This will be the Genesis trademark headlight pattern on all of its models going forward. An updated G70 is coming with similar lights and a new G90 cannot be far behind.

The 2021 Genesis GV80 gets a rooftop spoiler.

Similar wheel design to the G80, the 2021 Genesis GV80 also gets fat five spokes to roll on. But the brakes don’t look as big when you roll on 265/40R22 rubber.

Just like the G80, this is a fake, silver cladding piece on the 2021 Genesis GV80.

Also, just like the G80, the real exhaust tip tucked inside of the 2021 Genesis GV80.

The trunk release button blends in with the rear windshield wiper on the 2021 Genesis GV80.

Taking a look at the seat controls, the 2021 Genesis GV80 gets very similar treatment to the G80, with seat massagers and all.

And the second row is similar, too.

Very similar treatment to the G80 in the 2021 Genesis GV80. Though, as you can see, the lower center console slants up.
