New Zeekr X electric car revealed: could hit UK roads by 2025

Zeekr has fleshed-out its model range with the new X electric SUV and the Geely-owned brand has designs on European markets.

Zeekr, the premium China-based EV brand started by Volvo owner Geely, has unveiled its latest model, called the Zeekr X.

Described by Zeekr as an “urban SUV”, the new model will sit at the base of the brand’s line-up. It’s expected to make its public debut at the Shanghai Motor Show in April, but Zeekr has already confirmed that it sits on Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture – the same platform as the recently launched Smart #1, and the components that will also be used by Volvo for its forthcoming small model, called EX30. The car is claimed to be capable of 0-62mph in four seconds, so it would seem likely to be using the twin-motor configuration adopted by the Brabus version of the #1.

The Zeekr X measures 4,450mm long, so it’s a little longer than the Kia e-Niro – and its wheelbase is also slightly up on that car’s, at 2,750mm. Zeekr says the car’s design was led by its global team in Gothenburg, under the guidance of former Audi and Bentley styling chief Stefan Sielaff.

The styling mixes a relatively conventional-looking front end with a swept-up rear and a distinctive kink in the window line around the rear wheelarches. There’s no evidence of conventional door handles but there appear to be small buttons, hidden in the B- and C-pillars, that could be used to gain access to the cabin.

Zeekr has made no official comment on plans to expand into Europe, but leaked internal communications recently suggested that the brand expects to be selling cars in the region by 2025.
