Patent Images Hint at Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo Sedan
The 2022 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo is an ideal combination futurism and practicality. One of the things that makes the Cross Turismo so appealing is its lucky owners get to experience all of that EV goodness with a sleek wagon body to boot. However, Porsche has a knack for expanding its lineup every which way, and these patent images reveal plans to do more with the Taycan sedan.
It might not look like much—patent images are notoriously hard to glean much from—but there are some clues that a new Taycan variant is on the way. For one, it looks like the rear fascia from the Cross Turismo has made its way to the sedan. You can see the extended body cladding that swoops up and around the side of the rear bumper from the Cross Turismo clearly displayed here in the patent images.
What’s more, from some angles it looks as though the rear fender (specifically the bit of the haunch that sits over the rear wheels) has been altered so its trailing edge kicks up just a little bit as it moves toward the rear of the car. Could this be extra body cladding to help protect the body work from scuffs and desert pinstriping? Again, it’s hard to say for sure—it could easily be a mild refresh, not a Cross Turismo-influenced sedan—but these patent images are certainly different from the standard Taycan we’ve come to know over the last year or so.
Whatever these patent images represent, it is fun to noodle on what a more lifestyle-oriented Taycan sedan would look and drive like, especially since wagons like the Cross Turismo aren’t everybody’s thing.
