The 2021 Boardmasters Festival took place in Watergate Bay, Newquay and attracted thousands of fans looking for their live music fix after lockdown. But few anticipated waiting hours to leave the festival on Monday morning.

A Volkswagen campervan caught fire on the A30 eastbound, between A39 at Indian Queens and the A391 Victoria Junction.

The Boardmasters social media accounts continually updated those at the festival as to what the condition of the roads were.

Boardmasters festival organisers provided Express.co.uk with the following statement: “Due to a vehicle fire which had damaged the road surface, the A30 Eastbound was down to one lane, which caused delays leaving site.

“We diverted traffic via the A39 to get you on the move ASAP. Toilets and water were available in the car parks.

“All festival car parks were cleared by 6.30pm on Monday evening.”

This came after many fans vented their anger at the conditions with many saying they had been left without food, water and toilet access.

One Twitter user said: “Seriously – you need to give people water and clean loos!

“This is not good.”

The festival responded saying that water and toilets were available in the car park, and that a steward could help them if they needed assistance.

Another social media user pointed out the lack of organisation.

They said: “You can blame a lane being closed all you want, the delays for leaving the carpark were because of that, especially seven hours.

“Five marshals for a whole carpark and no toilets or water during a seven hour wait to get out.
