The Latest EV Startup Promises a 206-MPH Four-Seater With 6490 Lb-Ft of Torque
Add another electric-car hopeful to the list: Drako Motors, a Silicon Valley startup that released the first snippets of info about its planned high-performance EV today. Meet the Drako GTE, which promises 1200 horsepower and a whopping 6490 lb-ft of torque in a four-seater with a claimed 206-mph top speed.
Founded by tech entrepreneurs Dean Drako and Shiv Sikand, Drako Motors has been quietly preparing to launch its production car for several years. In 2015, the nascent car company built a prototype vehicle to showcase its torque-vectoring all-wheel electric drive system. The prototype lapped the Nurburgring in 7:49.04, which was claimed to be an EV record in 2015. That performance has since been bested numerous times, most recently by the track-only Volkswagen ID.R (6:05.336) and the production-intended Nio EP9 (6:45.9). Watch Drako’s prototype lap from 2015 here:
Details regarding Drako’s car are still scarce—the automaker has not released any images, though noted designer and former Pininfarina director Lowie Vermeersch has been named as the man responsible for the GTE’s styling. The company says the production car will accommodate four passengers and their luggage “luxuriously.”
Expect to see the Drako GTE make its public debut at the Quail Motorsports Gathering, part of Pebble Beach Car Week, on August 16th.
