Vehicle retail sales down by 5.4% in December 2022

Passenger vehicle sales grew by 16.35% in CY2022 compared to the previous year.

According to the data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), vehicle retail sales went down by 5.4% in December 2022, compared to the same month last year.

Overall sales for the month of December 2022 stood at 16,22,317 units, compared to 17,14,942 units in December 2021. Compared to December 2019, when 18,41,183 units were sold, total vehicle retails have decreased by 11.89%.

Tractor sales increased by 5.24%, from 74,653 units in December 2021 to 78,563 units last month.

Two-wheeler sales were down by 11.19% to 11,33,138 units from 12,75,894 units in December 2021.

Three-wheeler sales were up by 41.51% in December 2022. 63,655 units were sold, compared to 44,983 units in December 2021.

Passenger vehicle sales went up by 8.15% compared to the previous year. 2,80,016 units were sold last month, compared to 2,58,921 units in December 2021.

Commercial vehicle sales also increased by 10.67%. 66,945 units were sold in December 2022, compared to 60,491 units in the previous year.

FADA has also released vehicle retail data for CY2022. According to the figures, passenger vehicle sales grew by 16.35% compared to the previous year. 2-wheeler sales went up by 13.37%, while 3-wheeler sales grew by a massive 71.47%.
