Albon to feature in awkward Red Bull virtual event | Planet F1
Now this is awkward. Red Bull are advertising an “evening of anecdotes” from the 2020 season, featuring Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez…and Alex Albon.
A highly disappointing 2020 campaign for Albon ended with him dropped from his race seat for the upcoming year’s action, replaced by Perez.
But the London-born Thai driver has been named in the line-up for an exclusive Red Bull online event in which fans can also hear stories from team principal Christian Horner.
And as you can see from the tweet below, Albon looks like he cannot wait to take part in the event.

Here’s one for the diary… ? Don’t miss out on an exclusive virtual evening with the Team! ??
— Red Bull Racing (@redbullracing) January 28, 2021
The 90-minute online event has been scheduled for 7pm UK time on Tuesday February 23, with tickets on sale for £50. When you purchase a ticket, you will be sent a unique link in order to access the event remotely.
The promotional blurb for the event on the Red Bull website reads: “We’re excited to invite you to an evening of anecdotes from the paddock with Red Bull Racing Team Principal Christian Horner alongside drivers Max Verstappen, Alex Albon and Sergio Perez.
“We will delve deep as the team reflect on the unimaginable 2020 season, sharing stories from behind the scenes and discussing their hopes for next [this] year and beyond.
“In addition, we are delighted to team up with Wings For Life as part of a silent auction dedicated to raising funds to support research into finding a cure for spinal cord injury.
“Items up for grabs include a signed pair of 2020 Max Verstappen driver boots, VIP Red Bull Racing Factory Tour plus meet & greet, and a 15-minute zoom call with [Tottenham Hotspur manager and FI enthusiast] José Mourinho, to name a few. And all this can be enjoyed from the comfort of your sofa!
“We can’t wait until we can welcome you through the doors of our home in Milton Keynes once again but until then, we’re excited to share our exclusive online experience with you and give you unprecedented access to the heart of our team.
“And just because we’re not able to meet in person, that doesn’t stop you from being able to get involved as you’ll be encouraged to interact with the team via a live chat, giving you the chance to quiz Christian, Max, Alex and Sergio with those questions you’ve always wanted to ask.”
The good news for Albon is no mention of Dr Helmut Marko being on the panel.
Albon continues to be a test and reserve driver for Red Bull while Perez takes his seat, with the Mexican’s one-year contract meaning a decision will ultimately need to be made about who drives for the team in 2022.
In the meantime, Albon will gain further racing experience in the DTM series.
