Gran Turismo FIA Online Championship World Final: Latkovski Takes First Blood
Reigning FIA Motorsport Games Digital Cup champion Cody Latkovski has laid down the early marker at the FIA-Certified GT Sport Online Championship Nations Cup final, in Monaco.
In a qualifying session held Thursday, the Australian driver topped the time sheets, with a 1:17.431 lap of the Interlagos circuit in the Red Bull X2019 Competition race car. That will be the combination uses for the final — and likely deciding — race of the season on Sunday.
Latkovski’s time topped his semi-final group by just over 0.15s, from Jonathan Wong, but it was a little closer taking all the groups into account. Second-fastest overall was Mikail Hizal, just 0.001s behind, with Wong’s time third ahead of Igor Fraga and Takuma Miyazono. Rayan Derrouiche placed sixth overall, topping his semi-final time sheet with a 1:17.652.
These qualifying times will set the grid positions for the semi-final races taking place later today, which you’ll be able to watch live here on GTPlanet. However there’ll also be a top-six superpole shootout to determine the grid order and pole position for the top six drivers — should they qualify — for Sunday’s final races.
Eight of the top ten drivers in our GTPlanet Driver Rankings have made it into the top ten qualifiers here, with Patrik Blazsan of Hungary and Manuel Rodriguez of Spain (16th and 13th respectively) breaking into the top group.
Only the top three drivers from each of the three semi-final races will make it through to Sunday’s finals, with the next four in each semi having to fight for three spots available in the repechage.
Stay tuned to GTPlanet for more from Monaco over the next three days.
