Ott Tänak Flies Off Road and Crashes Out of Monte Carlo Rally in Wild Wreck

The 2020 World Rally Championship has only just begun, there’s already been a massive race-ending incident for the Hyundai team of Ott Tänak and co driver Martin Jarveoja.

The duo encountered a small bump in the road while traveling through a high-speed section of stage four of Monte Carlo Rally, which unsettled the car and sent it off the road at speeds over 100 mph. Here’s the onboard video from the wreck:

The exterior view of the crash is even more frightening, as it conveys just how fast the car was going when it left the road:

Somehow, both crew members were able to walk away from the incident. Both were taken to the hospital to undergo precautionary screenings, which makes sense considering the severity of the crash.

Glad to see that both Tanak and Jarveoja are OK, this was a seriously huge and scary crash. Bless those safe cars from @OfficialWRC.#WRC

The team’s i20 Coupe WRC wasn’t so lucky, however. Judging by pictures shared to Twitter, it’s been totally destroyed.

Tänak shocked the motorsports world in late 2019 with his shock move from Toyota following a championship win to Hyundai for the 2020 season. Up until his crash, he was fairing well time-wise, securing podiums in the first three stages. We’re curious to see how he performs once Rally Sweden kicks off in just a few weeks time.
