Pierre Gasly and Daniil Kvyat sad to see Honda leave | F1 News by PlanetF1
AlphaTauri duo, Pierre Gasly and Daniil Kvyat, have expressed their sadness over Honda’s decision to leave Formula 1 again.
The Japanese engine manufacturer has decided to exit the sport following the conclusion of the 2021 season, leaving Red Bull and AlphaTauri without a power unit supplier for the 2022 campaign and beyond.
Honda has expressed a willingness to help Red Bull in any way they can as the Milton Keynes team assess their options, yet the two drivers at the sister team are not happy that the Red Bull/Honda partnership is ending.
“I have to admit I’m sad that Honda is leaving Formula 1 after the experiences we shared together over the past four years,” Gasly, who has been powered by Honda to an unforgettable race win at Monza and a podium finish in Brazil last year, said.
“The people at Honda have played an important role in my career and I have always loved working with them.
“But we will still be together until the end of next year and I hope we can try and fight for more wins together before then, and that Honda will be in a position to fight for the championship title.”

Kvyat has also experienced a podium visit thanks to Honda power helping him secure a memorable P3 finish at the utterly bonkers 2019 German Grand Prix and he too is sad to see them depart.
“I was surprised to hear the news that Honda will leave F1 at the end of next year,” the Russian driver said.
“It is sad on a human level as I enjoy working with their engineers, and disappointing from a racing point of view because they have worked so hard to give us the best possible power unit and we have seen it deliver some excellent results so far.
“The Honda guys at the track are really committed and I’m sure they will continue to push while they are still in the sport.”
Heading into the Eifel Grand Prix, Pierre Gasly occupies P10 in the Drivers’ Championship with 45 points; Daniil Kvyat, meanwhile, is down in P15 with just 14 points to his name.
