Watch Fernando Alonso Flip His Dakar Truck Twice Then Drive Away
In case you weren’t aware, the 2020 Dakar rally is going on right now, and former Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso is participating. The start of the 10th stage became particularly eventful for the Spanish Toyota Hilux driver when he crested a sand dune and rolled his Toyota Hilux twice, before landing on his wheels and driving off.
The official Dakar rally Twitter page shared a slow-motion video of the roll early this morning. It shows the truck getting briefly airborne before tumbling down the soft dune.
Not a smooth start of the stage for @alo_oficial!
He dropped over 1h with an early crash and resumed driving without a windshield!

Of course, there were also a plethora of on-lookers that caught video of the wreck, giving us multiple angles from which to analyze:

This isn’t the first time Alonso’s had trouble at his Dakar debut. Earlier in the race, a wheel managed to remove itself from his Hilux. He and co-driver Marc Coma had to fix the truck themselves on-course, costing them more than two hours.
