BMW\u2019s new performance saloon will put the fun into EVs on a platform with more than 1,300bhp<\/h2>\n

BMW development boss Frank Weber has confirmed that the firm\u2019s next M3-sized performance saloon \u2013 and potentially an estate \u2013 will go all-electric. The M3 EV will be based on the firm\u2019s Neue Klasse platform, with an on-sale date as early as 2027, \u201cnot too far away from the initial launch of the Neue Klasse as a product line\u201d, according to Weber.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Speaking at the launch of the brand\u2019s new 5 Series and i5 electric saloon, and musing on whether BMW needs a halo model once a production saloon car based on the Neue Klasse platform goes on sale from 2025, Weber confirmed: \u201cThe next M3 will be fully battery electric \u2013 and will have \u2018the heart of joy\u2019 [referring to a new ECU package].\u00a0<\/p>\n
