A popular motoring expert has revealed a quick and easy way for drivers to check if their vehicle is locked as they leave their car.

With car thefts on the rise and a growth in the number of chop-shops making stolen vehicles harder to recover, more motorists are looking for ways to keep their car safe.

In one video, the TikTok user @dongcheshijie, who regularly gives drivers advice to get the most out of their vehicle, told motorists that many cars can tell owners when it is locked.

She explained: “You don’t have to go back just press the lock button and you’ll know. You haven’t set it up? Normally, if your car door is locked, you press the lock button, and the car horn will sound.

“We press and hold the lock button and unlock button for five seconds and keep it on. After hearing a beep, the function that the car horn will sound when you press the lock button is set.”

It dings if we hit the button and a door is open.”

Another added: “If my car door isn’t properly locked, I’ll hear the locking and unlocking sound after another and know.”
