The vehicle spares retailer LKQ Euro Car Parts has revealed a list of essentials that should be kept in vehicles throughout the winter months.

As the temperature drops, motoring can often be a more dangerous and frustrating experience, particularly if drivers are not prepared for all eventualities.

A spokesperson for LKQ Euro Car Parts noted that all drivers need to make sure that they can be seen by other road users if their vehicle breaks down.

They advised: “The shorter days that come with winter mean the chances of a breakdown happening when it’s dark out are higher. Because of this, keeping your car stocking with high vis jackets, an emergency triangle and a small torch is important for keeping yourself and others visible and safe from passing vehicles.

“A torch can also be essential for navigating the vehicle and surrounding areas should you have to walk somewhere for help.”

LKQ Euro Car Parts also warned that, whilst some breakdowns will require professional assistance to repair, motorists should keep some basic tools on board.

Keeping spare headlight bulbs, a tyre pump and weld and a small tool kit in the vehicle could help drivers to stay safe and on the move.

The company also highly recommended adding a small first aid kit, featuring items such as alcohol wipes and pain killers, in case of an emergency.

Don’t miss…

The company’s spokesperson also noted that motorists should add items to help keep the occupants warm whilst travelling this winter.

They added: “Keeping a blanket close-by, whether regular or thermal, will be beneficial to keeping you warm whilst you wait, which only a quarter (25 percent) of drivers keep in their vehicle.

“Similarly, a spare change of clothes, gloves, a scarf, and winter boots might be a good choice, especially if you must stand out in the rain or snow. Having these on-hand will help keep you warm as you wait for a repair service.”
